Green!
I think Calvin will be one of those kids who has an answer for everything....why wouldn't he be, I certainly was! Right now his answer is "green"...at least when asked what color something is. It doesn't matter what the item is, what color it is, whether he knows perfectly well what color it is (and knows how to say that color), the answer is still "green". Stated very quietly, a bit shyly, with a little shrug of his shoulders. So, we try to ask about green items a bit more often just to give him the occasional win.
The first color he could say was purple, then he added in green and yellow. I think he knows those colors - he will say "lello bus" when a big yellow bus goes by, but then most of the buses around here are yellow!
Ready for a "hike" in the forest
ready to climb
Calvin has also started saying animal names (finally), instead of just making the sound for those animals. He's been saying koala "koa" for awhile - probably because we never made a sound for it, just said the name. Now he says cat, doggy, bird, cockatoo "tockitoo", kookaburra, parrot, monkey, bunny and spider "pidah". He still sometimes says "lo" for cat (that's his version of meow), and says "lup lup" for frogs (his version of ribbit...go figure) - very cute, since I've been writing this he has started calling them "boggy" as well! Although Calvin will mimic just about anything we say he still does not use the "s" sound, so all of his s words either start with an "l" sound or with the second consonant in the word. He loves to play with his "lopping" cart, and says "lorry" when he's been bad! He was practicing saying "daddy's" the other day with a very lispy "sh" sound at the end, so he's getting there! He does the same with oops "oopsh" - it's really very adorable. He also loves to tell me when baby is "leeping" (or crying). :)
"go, go, go"
Calvin's favorite phrases right now are "too loud" (or too noisy, mostly reserved Cameron, but also anything from music to mommy), "look at thish" (as in "look at this mess", heard many, many times a day from me!), and my personal favorite "upaladdago" meaning up a ladder go (we have a step stool in our room by the window for him so he can look out). He says please "peash" when we ask him to, although he usually reverses the phrase, as in "peash cookie" instead of cookie please. He is counting now - one, two, three, four...nine, and occasionally ten! I guess it's time for me to work on his A,B,C's.
"wheee"
look at me Mommy!
Calvin is absolutely mad for trains and all other forms of transport...he is finally saying plane "pane" and every time he hears any loud sound from the sky he says "heydada" meaning helicopter. He loves motorcycles "motokoa", cars and trucks, but I think he loves tractors "tacta" best of all. He still asks for 'cake train' at least once a week.
Of course, Calvin asks for cake every day, and ice cream, and apple juice, and sometimes cookies, and always, always crackers. Often he gets crackers, but rarely does he get anything else. The ice cream he wants is just frozen apple juice, so we sometimes let him have a popsicle as he hardly eats any of it, but it's so messy we have to send him outside! I make muffins and call them cake and he likes those - they're a bit like carrot cake anyhow. Thank goodness he's still at an age where he will accept these healthy alternatives!
The most recent development in Calvin's life is his new nudist phase! He has decided every day is a pants off day and can often be heard saying "got penush". Unfortunately I also heard him say "ohhhh, nappy off....ohhhh, poo poo" through the monitor the other day. Needless to say there was a bath soon to follow! He is really resisting naps, refusing to wear his sleeping bag, any type of pants or shorts, or his nappy and just can't get to sleep as a result. I'm hoping it's a short phase (the no napping part - I'm sure the nudist part will not be short lived), but I'm desperately trying to come up with ideas to tire him out in the meantime!
