c-c-c-c-cravings!

OK, no shocks here, I'm pregnant, I've got cravings - and really they're not that unusual or at odd times of night (lucky for Mr. C!), but still I thought I should share because I do feel like a complete binge eater at the moment. I can go for days at a time eating like a normal person (well, a normal person who has to eat 5 0r 6 small meals a day and can't tolerate anything spicy!), when suddenly I have a hungry day. On a hungry day I feel like all I do is eat - one day it's fruit and sweets, the next day it's bacon and Doritos (not together mind you)!

From just about day 1 I have craved cinnamon, something I never really loved in the past - I've had cinnamon on my warm milk, cinnamon toast, cinnamon rolls and added cinnamon to almost every baked good I've made! Mr. C. is quite thrilled that I have a sudden liking for ham & pineapple pizza, which I've always disparaged in the past (he had to order it on his half only) - although now I've discovered a bacon satay pizza (think bacon, pepperoni and a peanut satay sauce) - sounds like something only a pregnant person would eat, but it's a standard on the menu of our local (even Mr. C. likes it).

Sushi has been big for me too, we've always had our weekly lunch date at the local sushi place, but since being pregnant I find myself wishing for sushi 2, 3 days a week. Of course, I can't have any of the raw stuff, but I never really liked those anyhow. California rolls and tempura shrimp rolls make me a very happy girl :)

The silliest thing I've wanted has been strawberry milk (yes folks, the bright pink stuff usually reserved for the under 10 crowd) - in the 2nd trimester I developed a sudden need for it (after having had copious amounts of chocolate milk up till then) and my darling husband went out to get me some while I was having my daily nap (awww, what a keeper he is)! I have had it about once a week since, but the chocolate milk craving has dropped off.

I had a terrible yen for Mexican food for weeks on end, but considering how bad my acid reflux has been it's probably for the best that you really can't find any that's good here! If I had to drive by Baja Fresh or Chipotle right now it would just be torture!

It has been a bit tough being preggy in a foreign country - despite the many similarities between the US and Australia, some products just can't be found here...for weeks on end I was thinking about root beer, any brand, but you can't get it here. A few stores have sarsaparilla, which is similar, but super sweet and just not near as nice as a cold bottle of Virgil's (ah now that would taste good right about now!). As I mentioned before, decent Mexican food is incredibly hard to find (it would mean a trip into Sydney or over to Bondi beach, not a major trek, but a ways to go for taco!), there are no Cheetos to be had, nor any half & half for my coffee. Ah well, the price you pay for an adventure! There are so many good things that I've managed just fine (and considering that I haven't mentioned one healthy thing, perhaps I'm better off!).
