Well, I'm 24 weeks now (24 weeks 4 days to be precise) and I've reached one of the many milestones in pregnancy. According to the books our bubs is now "potentially viable" meaning that some babies have come into the world this early and have survived. Definitely not something we want, but it's reassuring to know that from here on out if things go wonky there's a chance at least of survival.
Had a checkup with my OB today and he said that everything is looking great, the baby seems to be growing well, my blood pressure continues to be very good, and since my headaches have been a bit more manageable he's quite pleased! He did mention that I will go for 2 more ultrasounds - one at 28 weeks and one at 36 (I think) to check the growth of the baby. This is due to my pregnancy being through IVF - he said that there can be growth restrictions (as in the baby not growing normally) with IVF pregnancies. That was a little bit of a shock, as it's the first we've heard of it, but I'm glad he's being cautious and happy to have another peek at what's going on in there! The good news is that if there are any concerns with growth or the amount of amniotic fluid they will be caught early enough for us to do something about it. The other good news is that up till now everything has been normal and these scans are standard procedure for him, so I'm going to try not to worry too much (easier said than done for me).
Here's my 24 week belly shot - I reckon I'm being quite brave sharing my bare belly with the public, but hey, I'm pregnant - I get to do what I want, right?!
