The beginning of the end...

Unfortunately, little Miss Cloe does not seem to be faring too well these days. The lymph nodes on her neck have continued to grow and are effecting her breathing at this point. In addition the continued use of steroids and the heat of summer is causing her to pant almost constantly. We had another trip to the vet yesterday as her girly bits are all swollen - the vet didn't really have a guess as to why, other than a general reaction to the cancer. We are already giving her the meds they would prescribe for it (and they obviously aren't working) - so there's not much to be done for her at this point - poor girl.

Our only options now are to try a short dose of chemo - which might not make any difference - or keep going as is and we'll know when it's time to put her down. As we had decided against chemo right from the start, we are taking the wait and see approach.

It's looking like it's a matter of days, perhaps a week or so at best now, so we are going to spend some quality time with her and say our goodbyes. I'm sure you all know how hard this is, but it has to be done and we don't want her to suffer for the sake of spending a bit more time with us. She seems to be going downhill fast at this point and I think it's time to be the grownups that we are and make the tough decisions.
