GD

Well, it's official, I have gestational diabetes. The good news is that I am borderline (8.2 when the cutoff is 8) so it should be manageable through exercise and diet. The bad news is I have to prick my finger and test my blood 4 times a day - I've always hated those things that prick your finger, but just like needles with IVF this is my change to get over it!

The biggest adjustment is being so aware of what I am eating and when - especially keeping track of the carbs I take in. It feels like the first days of a new diet right now with lots of cravings, but at least I'm not hungry!

I have a feeling it will be a bit of trial and error to figure out what I can eat and maintain my blood sugar levels, but a meeting with the dietician next week will certainly help as well.

Yep...it's good and bad that GD. Mine was pretty easy to manage at first and I found great meals that my blood sugar could process, but as the boys grew I had to be careful because things I ate earlier on were no longer possible. Did they tell you to prick on the side of your finger and sort of squeeze it back and forth to get a good sized drop out? The sides aren't nearly as sensitive as the tips, and if you squeeze you don't have to use as deep a needle prick to get a good drop. There's nothing worse than pricking and testing and finding that your blood drop wasn't big enough to register and having to do it all over again! Sigh. My favorite things were apples and peanut butter and homemade ice cream with splenda.

Thanks Linn :) I have finally gotten the hang of pricking and not having to prick too deep - took me about a week! I've got to get an ice cream maker!
