Going for a family walk in my new carrier.

Silly time

Awww - blotchy face :(
Our little guy had been making lots of progress in the last couple of weeks. He started crawling about two weeks ago....he just had to get to the laptop that was on the floor and to Grandpa Vic (who was on skype)! His crawling was fairly jerky for the first few days - he looked a bit like a wind-up toy :) It wasn't long before CJ was zooming around the room though and with in a week he was pulling himself up on furniture. He can pull himself up on just about anything these days and is trying to climb some things as well. He loves standing in his cot and mouthing the rail (I'd say chewing, but still no teeth!) and occasionally he manages to sit down, the rest of the time he bonks his head :(
Yesterday we tried giving CJ a drink with a straw as we had left the sippy cup in the car, and much to my surprise he sipped away happily and got plenty of water with out choking (which he usually does with the cup). I guess we need to invest in some cups with straws now!
We weighed him the other day (well he crawled onto the scale and sat there for us!!) and he's a bit over 21 pounds now and a bit over 32 inches (that's a rough estimate based on standing a doll up next to him in the store that was the same height!). I'll be taking him in to the health care center for a nine month check-up soon and have more official data!
As I'm sure you can tell from the pictures, CJ has had his tongue hanging out for the last couple of weeks - I was a bit concerned after a week, but he does put it away occasionally these days, so I figure he's just discovered (well rediscovered) his tongue and is having a grand old time with it!
Last month Calvin had a mild allergic reaction (blotchy red spots around his mouth and on his neck) to something he ate at an event, but I wasn't sure which thing he reacted to - I thought it might be the watermelon. Then a couple of weeks ago I made the fritter recipe from that event, but I didn't have all the ingredients so I changed it up a bit. He liked them quite a lot, but he had another reaction and it was much stronger this time - he had red blotches on his chin, neck and chest, plus a couple on his wrist and ankle and he also had hives on the blotchy areas. His breathing was fine, but he was a bit grumpy so I think it was uncomfortable for him. Luckily they faded away within half an hour. The only items in common from the two recipes were eggs and ham. We've since fed him another pancake (part of our dutch baby breakfast one day) and he was fine, so we figure it's the ham. I'll have to take him in to the doctor one day and get him tested I suppose, but hopefully it's something he'll grow out of. At least ham is a lot easier to avoid than eggs!
He still loves his food, but he'd rather have cheese and yogurt than anything else these days. I spent a bunch of time last week cooking up new recipes for him and he turned up his nose at every one - he even rejects his old favorite of lentils and sweet potato these days, but will happily eat anything store bought! (sigh)
Now that Calvin's mobile he is , of course, getting into every last thing - he is particularly fascinated with power cords and laptops - so we spend a lot of time saying "No!" and "Ah-ah-ah!" neither of which to any effect - he just stops and looks at us with a little smile and then happily returns to whatever he's doing! We really must figure out how to baby proof and/or corral the little guy :)
